Inside the Palazzo Cervesato, a room steeped in history where Queen Margherita of Savoy stayed. She arrived in Santo Stefano di Cadore for a short stay. On the external wall of the building, on carved white stone extracted from the quarries of Monte Pinè of the Fadalto Pass, by the sculptor G. Giacomini of Belluno, it is possible to read: “Margherita di Savoia Queen of Italy with the Prince of Naples here entertained herself as an acclaimed visitor in day 3 September 1881 that the town hall remembers. ” A room dedicated to those who love history.
A large apartment in the eighteenth-century palace in which Queen Margherita of Savoy, eager to visit Cadore, not only for political purposes, looked out from the balcony (photo below) to greet the subjects who cheered her. She arrived with the Prince in the early afternoon, greeted by firecrackers and the sound of bells as well as by the crowd. This building was chosen, at the time the beautiful home of Eng. Luigi De Candido because it was located in one of the most beautiful spots in the square and in the street of Santo Stefano di Cadore which for the occasion had been covered with tapestries, flags, flowers and inscriptions. She was welcomed by the councilor Giovanni Bergagnin who performed the functions of the Mayor who for the occasion was dressed casually in black cloth, finding himself wearing gloves for the first time.
Not just comfort in this generously sized apartment. During the restoration, antiques dating back to the period of the visit of Queen Margherita of Savoy and Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Naples were found.
